Billy Mitchell & Bob FoxBob Fox and Billy Mitchell at Dartford Folk Club - 2nd October 2007

We decided to attend the opening gig of the tour when we heard that Dartford Working Men's Club which hosts the Folk Club had won CAMRA awards. Well deserved it was too - 12 real ales including one which was 9% proof!! I just settled for Taylors Landord bitter at £1.60 per pint. We will catch a couple in more convenient locations later in the tour. Especially as it was such a cracking gig.

The guys are in great form and complement each other so well. Two good musicians, two voices highly acclaimed in music circles, a collection of superb songs and some of the wittiest banter and wicked jokes. Bob is a regular but Billy hasn’t played there for almost 20 years. After the interval Bob said that someone was there who saw Billy the last time. He said, “Billy was shy twenty years ago!” At least it sounded like that.

Bill & Bob could earn their living as a comedy duo. It would be a shame because they have created an enormously enjoyable act.
Dartford FC has been in existence for 34 years now and have seen the best and there was general agreement that this show was as good as they come. They have developed the act, doing it all as a duo, including a clutch of new additions to the set. Their harmonies are superb and the choice of songs was spot on. Highlights for me were “Born At The Right Time” and their version of “Monday, Monday”.

We are looking forward to seeing how much better they are later in the tour. In any case it will be another very enjoyable event in the company of two very entertaining performers.
